Appeal over forklift truck theft

Manitou forklift truck (generic)
Police believe the truck was stolen to order

A forklift truck worth about £26,500 has been stolen from a business in the east end of Glasgow.

The red Manitou make vehicle was taken from Beaver 84 Ltd, Causewayside Street, Shettleston, between 1230 BST on Thursday and 0800 BST on Friday.

Police believe it was stolen to order and have warned other firms to be on their guard if offered such a truck for sale.

Officers are studying CCTV footage and carrying out door-to-door enquiries.

Det Con Dianne Wilson, of Strathclyde Police, said: "This was quite obviously a pre-planned theft, which must have taken quite some time to carry out.

"The suspects knew what they were after, and have forced the gates to the yard open and managed to steal the truck before staff returned to work on the Friday morning.

"I would urge anyone with any information relating to this theft or anyone who may have been offered such a vehicle for sale to contact police."
