An armed raider has robbed a bookmakers on the south side of Glasgow.

He made off with a three-figure sum from the William Hill betting shop in Victoria Road.

Strathclyde Police confirmed that the firearm was not discharged and no-one was hurt in the incident, which took place at about 1415 BST on Monday.

There has been a spate of robberies from betting shops in Glasgow and officers are continuing inquiries about two incidents in the city's west end.

The robber who targeted the Victoria Road premises threatened staff and forced them to hand over the money.

The suspect, who made off northwards in Victoria Road, is described as white, with light brown hair and in his 30s. He was wearing a dark jacket.

Det Con Scott Brockie, from Gorbals police office, said: "I would appeal to anyone who was in the area and may have seen the suspect hanging around the bookmakers before the robbery or running off afterwards to come forward."
