Crane brings scanner to hospital

A crane has been used to lower a six-tonne magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scanner to a Fife hospital in an eight-hour operation.

The delivery of the £1m equipment to Queen Margaret Hospital in Dunfermline was brought forward by two years after NHS Fife secured funding.

Up to 5,000 patients are expected to be scanned in its first year of operation.

A spokesman for the health board said the scanner marked a major investment in healthcare across the region.
