A 26-year-old woman has been attacked and raped in Glasgow city centre.

Strathclyde Police said the woman was approached by a man opposite the Tesco Extra shop in Argyle Street in the early hours of Friday morning.

She walked with him into a car park in James Watt Street where she was subjected to the assault.

The woman received facial injuries as a result of the attack and has been left extremely traumatised by her ordeal. The man then walked into Broomielaw.

He is described as being white, in his late 20s, 5ft 5in tall with a medium build and brown, short hair. He was wearing jeans and a t-shirt.

The attack was carried out sometime between 0330 and 0430 BST.

Det Con Evan Richards of Anderston CID appealed for assistance from the public.

He said: "I am keen to speak to anyone who was in the Argyle Street and James Watt Street areas yesterday morning and saw a man fitting this description with a woman.

"Between 3.30am and 4.30am people may have still been in the area having come out of clubs nearby and someone may have seen something that could greatly assist our enquiries."
