Two die in separate road crashes

Police have confirmed that two men died in two separate road accidents in the Strathclyde area on Sunday.

At about 0610 BST a 60-year-old was killed on the M74 at Elvanfoot after the Toyota Landcruiser he was driving lost control and crashed.

The man's three passengers, including his 48-year-old wife and children, aged 14 and 18, were uninjured but shaken.

Two hours later, Mark McDonald, 24, died after his car hit a tree on Barrhead Road, Pollok, Glasgow.

He received serious injuries as a result of the accident and was taken to the Southern General Hospital where he died a short time later.

Relatives have been informed of Mr McDonald's death and a report is being prepared for the procurator fiscal.
