Fatal crash car 'found' in water

Margaret Borris
Police believe the car which struck Ms Borris was driven by another woman

Police believe a car found submerged in water fits the description of one used to deliberately run down and kill a woman in Renfrewshire.

Officers said they also believed that a woman was behind the wheel of the Volkswagen Polo.

Margaret Borris, from Irvine, was hit by the car while walking on King Street in Paisley at about 1100 BST on Monday.

The 39-year-old mother-of-three died a short time later in the town's Royal Alexandra Hospital.

Det Insp Allan Woods, of Strathclyde Police, said: "As a result of enquiries, we now believe that the driver of the Volkswagen Polo car was a woman.

"We can also confirm that we have located a vehicle that fits the description of the car involved.

"This vehicle is currently submerged in water but will be recovered and subjected to a detailed forensic examination.

"It is imperative that we trace eyewitnesses to this horrendous crime and I would urge anyone who has not yet spoken to the police and either saw the incident or the vehicle leaving the scene to come forward as a matter of urgency."

Ms Borris was originally from the Paisley area but moved to Ayrshire with her three children.

She was walking with her 20-year-old son when she was struck by the car.
