Body on stairs sparks murder hunt

Police at flats
Police have urged anyone with information to come forward

A murder inquiry has been launched after the body of a man was discovered on a stair landing in Glasgow.

The body of Edward McGonagle, 35, was found in the common close at a property in Plean Street, Yoker, in the west of the city, at about 2300 BST on Monday.

Police said a post-mortem examination was expected to be carried out later but, due to the nature of his injuries, the death was being treated as murder.

Det Insp Andrew McWilliam urged witnesses to come forward.

He said: "Officers are carrying out door-to-door enquiries in the area and an incident caravan has been set up, which will be open 24 hours a day.

"We're anxious to speak to anyone who may have information relating to this incident and no matter how trivial they believe that information to be, it could assist us with our enquiry."
