Police were called to an incident at Law Muir farm

Two men are in police custody following a siege at a farm outside Glasgow.

In a pre-planned operation armed officers and negotiators surrounded Law Muir Farm at Hardgate near Clydebank at about 2200 BST on Thursday.

Police said the incident ended shortly before 0400 BST and two men, aged 50 and 51, had been charged.

One of the men is John Bowden, who went missing from Noranside Open Prison in Angus last month, after being allowed out on a shopping trip.

A journalist from England, who has known Bowden for a number of years, contacted the BBC on Thursday night.

He said he had taken a call from Bowden, who had said he was unarmed and fearful of what could happen to him.

The media and public were notified on 16 May that Bowden, who had been convicted for a violent crime, had gone missing from the prison.

A Scottish Prison Service spokesman said at the time the public should not approach Bowden.

Both men were expected to appear in court on Monday.
