Sex offender arrested at Heathrow

Martin Cusick was traced in Canada and is being detained by police

A missing registered sex offender traced in Canada is now in the custody of Strathclyde Police.

Former police officer Martin Cusick, 52, had been missing from his home in Clarkston since October 2005.

Following an appeal for information on his whereabouts, he made contact with police officers.

He was arrested by Strathclyde Police on his arrival at Heathrow Airport. He has been detained in custody and will appear in court on Friday.

The force had earlier been criticised for only launching an appeal for information on 11 March this year.

Officers said they had been carrying out "extensive inquiries" to trace Cusick, who was jailed for five years in 1996 for lewd and libidinous behaviour against three children aged between six and 12, after he breached monitoring conditions.
