Train fares to rise by almost 5%

Rail fares in the Strathclyde area are to rise by almost 5% from 18 May.

First ScotRail, which operates the trains, said the 4.9% figure was in line with an earlier franchise agreement.

The firm introduced increases of 4.8% elsewhere in the country back in January.

James King, from Passenger Focus, said travellers would want to know what they were going to get in return for the above inflation rise.
