Children in Need raised over £1.5m in Scotland last November

BBC Children in Need raised a record-breaking £1.6m in Scotland last November, with a predicted Appeal 2007 income of £4.75m.

Nearly £3m will be distributed this spring, split into 138 grants to disadvantaged children and young people across Scotland.

A further series of grants will be allocated this August.

BBC broadcaster Sir Terry Wogan said Children in Need raised a record-breaking £36m in the UK.

North Ayrshire community project Ancho, which supports communities with few facilities and high unemployment, has been allocated more than £43,000.

The project will provide a youth information drop-in cafe, and support to help youngsters into further education or gain work experience.

The two-year grant will also pay the salary of a full-time youth worker and some equipment costs.
