Stockline inquiry held in Glasgow

The explosion in Maryhill led to a massive rescue effort

The public inquiry into the Stockline factory explosion, in which nine people died, will be held in Glasgow.

A venue for the inquiry, which will be hosted by the Lord Justice Clerk Lord Gill, is still to be decided. No date has been set.

Lord Gill told a preliminary hearing at the High Court in Glasgow: "This is a public inquiry and will aim to be as open and transparent as possible."

Nine people died and 33 were hurt when the factory collapsed on 11 May, 2004.

Lord Gill said every possible effort would be made to finalise "matters of administrative detail" in the near future.

He told the survivors and families of those who died that he was conscious of the "dreadful tragedy" that had occurred.

A further hearing will be held at the High Court in Glasgow in April to determine the start date for the inquiry.
