Detectives investigating the murder of a man in a street attack have returned to the scene a week after the killing to appeal for witnesses.

Brian McQueen, 37, was fatally injured when he was attacked by four men in Blantyre, South Lanarkshire.

The attack happened at about 2200 GMT on 13 February, just after he had left a friend's house in Small Crescent.

On Wednesday night officers stopped more than 100 people in the hope of jogging memories about the attack.

'Piece of information'

The operation took place in Hardie and Craig streets, as well as Auchinraith Road.

"I am encouraged by the response from members of the public," said Det Ch Insp Alan Welsh, of Strathclyde Police.

"At this time, we are currently sifting through the details provided to see if there is that vital piece of information that may move this investigation forward."

Mr McQueen, of Springwell Crescent, Blantyre, was found lying unconscious in the street by a member of the public out walking his dog.

He was taken to hospital where he later died as a result of the injuries he had sustained.
