Murder probe follows gang attack
A murder investigation has been launched following the death of a man in South Lanarkshire.

Brian McQueen, 37, from Blantyre had left a friend's house in Small Crescent to walk a short distance home when he was attacked by four men.

He was found lying unconscious in the street by a member of the public out walking his dog.

Mr McQueen was taken to hospital where he later died as a result of the injuries he had sustained.

Det Ch Insp Alan Welsh, who is in charge of the investigation, said police were treating Mr McQueen's death as murder.

"I want the people who live in the area to know that there will be detective and uniformed officers carrying out house-to-house enquires in this area and there will generally be an increased police presence", he said.

He added: "This can be a busy area and at the time of night this attack happened I would expect there to be a number of people on the street either walking or driving and I would appeal to anyone who saw this attack or has any information about it to contact us."
