A violin valued at £35,000 has been stolen from a hotel in Glasgow.

Police said the Gagliano violin belonged to a 26-year-old musician from Manchester who had played at Glasgow Royal Concert Hall.

It was stolen, along with a Duff violin bow valued at £2,500, from the Thistle Hotel between 2300 GMT on Wednesday and 0300 GMT on Thursday.

Det Con Diane Donald, from city centre police office, said the violin was stolen from a room on the 8th floor.

The musician had played a Christmas concert with the Mozart Festival Orchestra.
