Dying man in breakdown ambulance
Ambulance
A second ambulance was sent out after the first broke down
An ambulance which got stuck in the mud on the way to hospital had been carrying a critically injured man who later died.

Andrew Andrews, 61, had been working at Sandyholm Garden Centre near Lanark on Thursday, when he was hit by a digger.

However, the ambulance that was sent to the scene got stuck in mud. Another vehicle arrived within 13 minutes.

Strathclyde Police said it was not linking the breakdown to the death of Mr Andrews.

He was pronounced dead at Wishaw General Hospital.

A spokesman for the Scottish Ambulance Service said: "When we arrived at the scene, the conditions were very muddy.

"The ambulance got bogged down and in the process of trying to get free, the gearbox failed.

"We immediately dispatched another vehicle which arrived within 13 minutes and took him to Wishaw General Hospital."
