Man killed following disturbance

Police are carrying out door-to-door inquiries
Police have launched a murder inquiry after a man was killed in a disturbance in Johnstone, near Paisley.

Joseph McCulloch, 39, and a woman aged 36, were returning home from a night out when they were attacked in Greenend Avenue at about 0120 GMT.

A police spokesman said Mr McCulloch died at the scene after receiving serious head injuries.

The woman was seriously injured and is in a stable condition in the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley.

Police appeal

Strathclyde Police has appealed for witnesses to the incident.

It is understood detectives are following a positive line of inquiry.

Det Insp John Dearie said: "We are trying to establish the circumstances surrounding the disturbance at Greenend Avenue.

"Detectives are currently making door-to-door enquiries in an attempt to glean further information.

"I'd like to speak to anyone who witnessed the events at Greenend Avenue or anyone who may have seen person or persons hanging around the area prior to the incident taking place or running off afterwards."
