Two die and three hurt in crash
A road accident near Cumbernauld has claimed the lives of two people and left a third in a critical condition.

The accident happened on the A8011 at Wilderness Brae at about 1515 GMT on Monday.

The female passenger of a Volkswagen Golf and the male driver of a Vauxhall Astra travelling in the opposite direction died after the cars collided.

The female driver of the Golf is in a critical condition and two children from the car are "serious but stable".

The injured were taken to Monklands Hospital.

A spokesman for Strathclyde Police, which has appealed for witnesses to the acident, said the road would be closed for several hours.
