Father pays murdered son tribute

A teenage schoolboy who was stabbed to death in a house in Inverclyde had a "heart of gold", his father has said.

Brian Pyper, 44, from Glasgow, said his son Darren was an angel who had "no badness in him, just good".

Darren, 14, was murdered in a friend's house in Gourock on Wednesday. Mr Pyper said he had been stabbed in the back.

He said: "Seeing your boy lying in the mortuary at 14 is just horrible. It is a waste, all because of knives. I'm just gutted, I can't believe it."

The attack happened in Gourock's Albert Road at about 1900 BST on Wednesday.

'Cool wee guy'

Two men, aged 64 and 44, are being treated at Inverclyde Royal Hospital. A fourteen-year-old boy was released after treatment.

Detectives said they were following a definite line of inquiry

Darren's father said he was called from his son's mobile phone after the attack.

"It was his gran so I knew something wasn't right," he said.

"I asked her where my boy was. I could tell by her voice something was wrong."

Mr Pyper travelled to Gourock where he found out his son was dead. He had last spoken to him just hours before he died.

"He was pure gold," he said.

"He was full of life, everyone just loved him. Such a cool wee guy, always there with a hug, always there with a smile on his face."
