Fresh appeal over abandoned baby
Baby Andrew found at Wishaw General Hospital
The newborn baby was abandoned at Wishaw hospital
Police have made another appeal to trace the mother of a baby who was found abandoned at a North Lanarkshire hospital a month ago.

The newborn baby, who has been named Andrew, was discovered by a security guard at Wishaw General on 7 August.

Police said that despite a "thorough and extensive investigation" they had been unable to trace his mother.

Supt Greig Robertson said everyone involved in the case had been moved by the plight of the baby.

Medical attention

He said: "It has been almost five weeks now since he was left at the hospital, and at the time concerns were high for the health and wellbeing of his mother.

"As time has passed we are hoping that she is okay, however we cannot be sure.

"We are still therefore concerned that she may not have received medical attention; but our main priority now is to reunite her with her son."

He appealed for the mother or anyone who has information about her to come forward.

"Someone may have been on holiday and hasn't been aware of the search and unwittingly may know something that could help our enquiries," Supt Robertson said.

"There may be friends or family members who are protecting her by not coming forward, but I would urge anyone who knows her identity to contact me."
