Car crashes into office building
Scene of the crash
The car smashed into the front of the planning office
Office workers narrowly avoided injury after a car crashed into the front doors of a busy council building.

Staff at Glasgow City Council's planning office, one of the biggest in Scotland, were just leaving at 1700 BST when the accident occurred.

A red Renault people carrier appeared to come off the road at George Street, near the city's George Square, before smashing into the glass doors.

Workers and shoppers stopped to take mobile phone pictures of the scene.

An office worker, who did not wish to be named, said: "It was chaos. I was just leaving when I saw it. Luckily police and the fire brigade were there very quickly.

"I think two cars were involved and there was talk that someone may have been pinned against a wall.

"It would be a miracle if no-one was injured."
