Developers said the new building would be a stunning addition to the skyline
Developers have unveiled their plans for a new £17m building at the heart of one of Glasgow's busiest streets.

The former Intercity House site near Glasgow Central station will be turned into a nine-storey, 71,000 sq ft office and retail development.

To be renamed Evolution, the building will occupy a high-profile site next to the award-winning Radisson Hotel.

Buccleuch Property said it was confident that work could begin on the site in January 2008.

Sandy Smith, development director at Buccleuch Property, said: "Evolution will be one of the biggest speculatively built office developments to start in Glasgow next year and commands a hugely prominent position on a busy city-centre site.

Thriving market

"Located within the city's central office core and international financial services district, as well as neighbouring Glasgow's proposed 'high speed' rail link to the airport, this development will make a positive and striking contribution to the city.

"Following detailed pre-submission discussions with Glasgow City Council, we are hopeful that planning consent will be granted in early course, allowing construction to commence in January 2008.

"Evolution will provide much needed Grade A space within Glasgow's burgeoning and thriving office market."

Joint letting agent, Ewan Cameron of Ryden, said the development would be "stunning" and would make good use of a well-known location.
