Man dies in level crossing crash
A 37-year-old man has died after a train collided with a van at a level crossing.

Strathclyde Police said the incident at Gailes Road, Irvine, which resulted in the death of the van driver, happened at about 0045 GMT on Friday.

The southbound train involved was empty at the time and Network Rail said that there appeared to be no problems with the crossing's barriers or lights.

The incident caused disruption to train services between Ayr and Glasgow.

A shuttle bus service was provided between Ayr and Kilwinning and a limited train service was running between Ayr and Kilmarnock.
