Glasgow's International Financial Services District has created 13,100 jobs since its launch in 2001.

An independent report for Scottish Enterprise showed it is on target to deliver 20,000 jobs by 2011.

Stuart Patrick, of Scottish Enterprise Glasgow, said the district is one of the UK's leading financial locations.

The figures were released as the government revealed an increase of 17,166 jobs in Glasgow, bringing the total number to 410,934.

About one quarter of that total is in the financial or business service sector.

Glasgow City Council leader Steven Purcell said: "We're outperforming our competitor cities across the UK with a vibrant, diverse economy which is attracting record investment and, in turn, creating record numbers of jobs."
