City landmark hotel gets facelift

A well known hotel in the centre of Glasgow has been given a £1m makeover.

Entrepreneur Stuart Wilson bought the former Bewleys Hotel in September last year for more than £10m.

He unveiled the redevelopment of the city centre venue on Thursday and announced that it would be renamed after his 16-month old son Mark.

Last year, Andrew Langwallner, Bewleys managing director, said the company sold its only Glasgow property to concentrate on hotels in other cities.

Marks Hotel on Bath Street is now expected to open to the public later this year.

Mr Wilson's Rossmark Hotel Group (named after both sons), a subsidiary of Baronsgate Estates Limited, bought the property last year.

'Cultural attractions'

He said: "We have been looking for a prime site to introduce our vision for Marks Hotel to the market place for a long time.

"The wait has been worth it as the Bath Street development is ideal. We are creating a hotel that's on the doorstep to the many cultural attractions of the city and we aim to make the most of it.

"We know what people look for in a hotel and we aim to deliver just that.

"The hotel will be a welcoming destination with a real family run feel - one of the reasons we named it after Mark."
