Punters fight pie with pint ban

A pie will no longer accompany a pint in The Horse Shoe

The traditional pie and pint at a famous Glasgow bar has come to an end, on the orders of the management.

The Horse Shoe bar in Drury Street has withdrawn pies from its menu on the instruction of its owners Mitchells and Butlers.

Bar owners are hoping "to broaden the pub's appeal to a wider customer base".

David Hunter, a Horseshoe regular, has launched an online vote asking punters to support his campaign to return pies to the menu.

His website says the pie has been a tradional snack with thousands of patrons.

"It's the natural choice with a pint," it adds

"Now, the owners of the pub, Mitchells and Butlers, want to stop selling pies and replace the famous traditional three course lunch with a more varied menu.

"And the opinion of the Horse Shoe regulars - no thank you, we'd like our pies back please."

A spokeswoman for Mitchells and Butlers Retail told BBC Scotland's news website that a new and extended menu would be introduced at the Horse Shoe.

She added: "The decision to remove 'pie and peas' from the menu is based on the decline in demand over the years.

"We hope that our regular guests will appreciate the new additions and that new customers will try out our new menu."
