A man has appeared in court charged with the murder of a shopkeeper in a South Ayrshire town.

John McGeechan, 46, of Kirkland Street, Maybole, made no plea or declaration and was remanded in custody. He was charged with murder and theft.

Ahmjid Ismail, 34, was found seriously injured in his store in Maybole on Wednesday. He died shortly afterwards in Ayr Hospital.

An investigation was launched and Mr McGeechan was arrested on Friday.
