Kriss trial phone data not exact

Data gleaned from mobile phone masts could not pinpoint a caller's exact position, the Kriss Donald murder trial has been told.

Evidence placing one or all three of the accused in Glasgow, then Dundee and the Clyde walkway where his body was found has been heard at the High Court.

Expert David Sanderson, 36, who charted their movements, said a signal might be picked up some distance from a mast.

Mohammed Faisal Mushtaq, Zeeshan Shahid and brother Imran Shahid deny murder.

Kriss's body was found on 16 March, 2004 and the three have been accused of the racially-motivated murder of the teenager.

Mr Sanderson, an engineer with a forensic telecoms company based in Kent, told the High Court in Edinburgh that data could only be consistent with a phone being in a particular spot.

"That doesn't rule out other locations," he added.

"It is consistent with coming from that location but indeed could come from anywhere in the cell area."

The trial continues.
