Up to 2,000 properties will be built in the waterfront development
Plans for the second phase of one of Scotland's biggest waterfront developments have been unveiled.

The £245m project will create a new community called Ferry Village, spanning 105 acres from Braehead shopping centre to Renfrew town centre.

Up to 2,000 homes will be built, including apartments, townhouses, villas and penthouses.

Phase one involved the £300m development of Braehead Shopping Centre and surrounding retail park.

The new village will be built by Bett Homes, George Wimpey, Miller Homes (Scotland West), Sovereign House Fairbriar Homes and Strathclyde Homes.

The development forms part of the mass transformation of the River Clyde waterfront which stretches 13km (8 miles) from Glasgow city centre to Erskine.

Speaking on behalf of the five developers, Lorraine Clelland, sales and marketing director for Bett Homes (Central Scotland), said: "Phase one of Renfrew Riverside brought a wealth of leisure, retail and commercial opportunities to the area and now we are continuing the story by building a diverse mix of properties which will ultimately provide househunters with real choice and range.

"We believe strongly in the regeneration of the Clyde and are showing this with our investment and commitment to Ferry Village.

"The project will create thousands of jobs over the next five years boosting the local economy and strengthening the community of Renfrew and Braehead even further".

Cllr Jim Harkins, leader of Renfrewshire Council said: "This extensive residential development will contribute in a major way to the complete regeneration of this important area of riverside".

A further £15m has been invested by the Renfrew Riverside partnership for the creation of roads, parks and walkways.

Construction work and sales are due to begin this month.

The properties, which are close to Braehead Shopping Centre, will have good commuter links to the M8, Glasgow International Airport and Glasgow city centre.

Brian Clarke, of the Renfrew Riverside partnership, said: "I am delighted with the launch of Ferry Village with five quality house builders, which is a significant milestone in this project."
