Passengers on a Stagecoach bus which plunged 10ft down an embankment suffered neck and back injuries.

Four people were taken to Paisley's Royal Alexandra Hospital following the crash, which happened on the A737 near Linwood.

The Express service was going north from Ayrshire to Glasgow at the time.

Strathclyde Police said the bus, which had 15 people on board, crossed the carriageway and went down the embankment.

Another bus took those passengers who were not hurt to their final destination.

Emergency exit

According to Stagecoach the bus, which had seatbelts fitted, was carrying 24 passengers at the time of the accident.

The company said those on board left the vehicle by an emergency exit and no-one was seriously injured.

The driver of the bus was among the four taken to hospital.

A statement from Stagecoach said: "Investigations are under way into the cause of the crash and we're assisting the police with their inquiries."
