Legionella closes hospital ward
A haematology ward at the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley has been closed indefinitely due to "raised counts of a legionella species".

A health board spokeswoman said the ward was closed as a precaution after legionella was found in the plumbing of wash hand basins during surveillance.

She said: "It is not a pathogenic strain and does not normally cause harm to humans. No-one is ill."

The ward was closed on Tuesday and will reopen after a "thorough clean".
