Men in Glasgow spend £6.6m a year on prostitutes, according to a study.
Men made more than quarter of a million visits to prostitutes
The figure was revealed by Glasgow City Council in evidence before a cross-party committee at Westminster investigating human trafficking.
It heard figures of 264,000 visits to prostitutes in saunas, flats and other areas, with an average spend of £25.
Peers and MSPs were also told of 112 foreign women working in the city as prostitutes, with about 46 women believed to have been trafficked.
Ann Hamilton, of the council's corporate violence against women section, said: "We recently did some work on looking at the sex industry.
"What we saw were about 264,000 men spending at least £6.6m a year on saunas, flats, etc.
"That was taken from some work through Punternet where men talk about their experience of buying sex."
