A man has been charged with the murder of a Scots holidaymaker in a crowded bar on the Canary Islands.

Amid MH, 31, from the Spanish enclave of Melilla, was remanded in custody by investigating judge Gema Lopez after a three-hour hearing on Fuerteventura.

Engineer Brian Hobbs, 52, from Cambuslang, died when he was attacked in a bar in Puerto Caleta.

Amid MH was expected to be taken to Lanzarote on Tuesday where he will be held in prison until his trial.

His brother was released by the court two weeks ago.

He was ordered to report once a week to the court on charges related to the incident.

Mr Hobbs' funeral was held at the weekend.

He was attacked while drinking alone on Thursday 4 May, shortly after arriving on the island.
