Engineer Mr Hobbs, 52, from Cambuslang, was killed in a crowded bar on Fuerteventura last Thursday.
The man accused of his murder was bound over for 24 hours by a judge in a closed-door hearing, while investigators gather more evidence.
A second man arrested in connection with the death has been released.
Mr Hobbs was attacked while drinking alone in the resort of Puerto Caleta, shortly after arriving on the island.
