Police have launched a murder probe after finding fresh CCTV footage of a missing office worker in Edinburgh.

The CCTV footage shows 38-year-old Suzanne Pilley just outside her office in Thistle Street at 0855 BST on 4 May, the day she went missing.

Lothian and Borders Police said the discovery that she made it to work had led them to launch a murder inquiry.

Her parents, Robert and Sylvia Pilley, said they suspected something "sinister" had happened to her.

Ms Pilley, from the Stenhouse area of Edinburgh, is 5ft 4in, of slim build with short, light brown hair.

Det Ch Insp Gary Flannigan, who is leading the inquiry, said: "Tracing Suzanne to Thistle Street on the morning she went missing is hugely significant in terms of this inquiry.

"It further proves this was a routine morning for Suzanne, and she was following her usual patterns. We suspect she may well have made it to her office as normal.

"This development means we are treating this as a murder investigation."

A statement issued from the bookkeeper's parents said: "As a family we still live in hope of good news, and would still appeal for people up and down the country to stay vigilant and look out for Suzanne.

"We have, however, been kept informed of the way the police inquiry has been progressing, and deep down we do suspect something more sinister has happened.

"Suzanne would never put us through this kind of worry intentionally, so we can't help but think she has come to some harm.

"Words can't describe just how devastated we are at this time, each day we are overwhelmed by worry, but until we hear otherwise, we will always hope for some positive news."

Ms Pilley boarded the no 2 bus at Stevenson Drive at 0820 BST on Tuesday 4 May, getting off at 0832 BST and changing to the no 4 bus at Dalry Road, opposite Caledonian Terrace.

She got off the bus at Jenners department store in Princes Street at 0848 BST then went into the Sainsbury's supermarket near St Andrew Square, before heading to work in nearby Thistle Street.

On the day she went missing she was wearing a light-blue waterproof jacket, red fleece top, light-blue trousers or jeans, trainers and she was carrying a shoulder bag and a water bottle.

Efforts to trace Ms Pilley have included a huge screen positioned in St Andrew Square, which displayed CCTV footage of her on the way to her office.
