At least 30 residents have been evacuated from the burning buildings

Four blocks of flats in Edinburgh have been evacuated as fire crews tackled a large blaze.

The fire started in a top floor flat on Saughton Mains Park Road at about 0645 GMT and was still not out by 1530 GMT.

The fire has spread to another two flats and the road has been closed while 40 firefighters tackle the blaze. There are no reports of casualties.

At least 30 were evacuated from the building. A respite centre was set up in Carrick Vale Community Centre.

Edinburgh City Council said 16 people have been offered the temporary accommodation.

Council officers will assess the safety of the building once firefighters have given the all-clear.

A fire investigation unit is also at the scene.
