Police made the arrests after reports of the attack on Leith Walk in Edinburgh.

Lothian and Borders Police appealed for information about the sexual assault, which happened after 2200 GMT on Friday, November 27.

The Crown Office said the two teenage boys, both 16, were freed pending further inquiries.

A spokesman said: "We can confirm a report has been submitted by the police to the procurator fiscal in Edinburgh concerning two 16-year-old males, in connection with an incident on 27 November.

"Following full and careful consideration of all of the facts and circumstances in this case, they were liberated from custody on the instruction of Crown counsel, pending further investigation."
