A woman who was struck by a car in Edinburgh at the weekend has died, police have confirmed.

Fiona Clason, 24, was hit by a silver Volkswagen Golf in Waterfront Avenue at 2000 GMT on Sunday.

Ms Clason, of New Cut Rigg, Edinburgh, was taken to the Western General Hospital, where she died on Monday.

A 20-year-old man was arrested and charged by the police in connection with the incident, before later being released.

Lothian and Borders Police said further lines of inquiry were still being followed up, and appealed for witnesses to come forward.

The force said it was particularly keen to speak to passengers who were travelling on a LRT number 38 bus which was in Waterfront Avenue at the time of the incident.
