Officers will patrol areas where there may be alcohol-related disorder

Police in Edinburgh have launched a new crackdown on anti-social behaviour to coincide with the festival season. The Lothian and Borders force said the two-month operation aimed to make the city a safer place to live and visit. The drive involves the police, council and other private sector organisations and will run until 6 September, when the festival season ends. Officers will patrol buses and trains in the capital, as well as carrying out checks of licensed premises. Inspector Andy Gilhooly said: "There will be an enhanced and visible policing presence during the operation and we will continue to take a robust stance on anti-social behaviour." Councillor Paul Edie, from Edinburgh City Council, said: "It is vital that we work together with our partners to provide a reassuring and visible presence to ensure that the safety and enjoyment of law-abiding citizens are not compromised by the criminal or anti-social behaviour of the small minority."
