Three firefighters were treated for minor injuries after a blaze in the same street where fireman Ewan Williamson lost his life last week.

The firefighters had been called to a British Heart Foundation charity shop in Dalry Road, Edinburgh, at about 0400 BST.

They were released from hospital after being treated for smoke inhalation and bumps and bruises.

Mr Williamson died in a blaze at the Balmoral bar on Dalry Road on 12 July.

Sixty firefighters were on hand to tackle the flames at the height of the British Heart Foundation shop blaze, with seven pumps and three support vehicles also despatched, a spokeswoman for Lothian and Borders Fire and Rescue said.

'Come forward'

She described the incident as a "massive fire".

The cause of the fire has yet to be established, but police are appealing for anyone who was in the vicinity of Dalry Road at the time to contact them.

A police spokesman said: "We are looking to speak to anyone with information that can help our inquiries.

"In particular, we want to speak to a man and a woman who were seen walking together towards Gorgie from Dalry at around 4am this morning, as they may have information that can assist us.

"We would appeal for them to come forward as soon as possible, and we would also appeal for anyone else who has information that can help us to get in touch."

Mr Williamson's funeral will be held in Edinburgh on Wednesday

Mr Williamson, 35, was killed and one of his colleagues injured after a floor inside the Balmoral collapsed in the early hours of last Sunday.

His funeral service is to take place on Wednesday, with up to 700 mourners set to be at a public ceremony in St Giles Cathedral on the capital's historic Royal Mile.

The coffin will be carried on a fire engine from Mr Williamson's Tollcross fire station base through the heart of the city and up to the cathedral.

Firefighters from Lothian and Borders Fire and Rescue will line the route, with firefighters from Green Watch, Tollcross, acting as a Guard of Honour.
