West Sands, St Andrews
The alarm was raised after shouts were heard from West Sands

Three people have been rescued after they got stuck on a sandbank at St Andrews on Sunday.

The alarm was raised after a member of the public heard screams and shouts coming from an area of the West Sands.

A Navy rescue helicopter picked two people out of sea, while a coastguard rescue team managed to get a line to a third person stuck on the sandbank.

All three people were taken ashore and given treatment for their injuries by an ambulance crew.
