One of two men charged with raping and attempting to murder a woman in the Dalry area of Edinburgh in February has died in jail.

A spokesman for the Scottish Prison Service said Thomas Kryczyk, 26, had died on Sunday at Saughton Prison.

He was remanded in custody in February after an Australian woman was attacked in the Telfer subway.

Police and next of kin have been informed and a fatal accident inquiry will be held.

Mr Kryczyk was remanded in custody along with Michal Marchlewski, 20, when he appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on 18 February.

The pair made no plea or declaration during the brief appearance.

The two accused were both understood to be Polish nationals.
