Pair appear over theft of handbag

Two men have appeared in court accused of stealing a handbag from a pub in Edinburgh.

Kenny Richey, 44, appeared from custody at Edinburgh Sheriff Court along with another man, Ronald Mathieson.

The pair were accused of stealing the handbag from the Artisan pub in Edinburgh's London Road on Thursday.

Mr Richey denied the charge and was released on bail. Mathieson, 45, pleaded guilty and was released on bail ahead of sentencing.

Sheriff Celia Sanderson said the case would call again in August.

Richey, of Edinburgh, also denies a further charge alleging he broke a written agreement made with Lothian and Borders Police last July in which he agreed not to commit any offences.

Mathieson, of South Queensferry, pleaded not guilty to committing a breach of the peace at St Leonard's police station in Edinburgh earlier on Friday and this was accepted by the Crown.
