Teenager guilty of molesting girl

Edinburgh Sheriff Court
Sentencing will take place at Edinburgh Sheriff Court next month

A 17-year-old boy has been placed on the sex offenders register for molesting a four-year-old girl.

Terry Johnston, who has two other convictions for sexual offences in England, preyed on the girl in Edinburgh last year.

Police were called after the child demonstrated various adult practices.

Johnston pled guilty at Edinburgh Sheriff Court to using lewd and libidinous practices and behaviour towards his victim.

He has been allowed to remain on bail until he is sentenced next month after the court hears background reports on him.

Johnston was just 16 when he behaved lewdly towards the four-year-old one evening last March.

Fiscal depute Dev Kapadia told the court the incident came to light when the girl's mother gave her a kiss and told her "I love you".

"The child said back 'I love you too so let's play the kissing game' and proceeded to kiss her mother with an open mouth in an adult fashion.

"The child's mother became alarmed at this and upon questioning the child then revealed to her mother about the incident which had taken place."

Johnston had fled to his mother's home in Crewe, Cheshire, and was living there when he committed two other offences against teenage girls.

His solicitor, Ewen Roy, said Johnston pled guilty last December at South Cheshire Youth Court to making an indecent photograph of a child which was found on his mobile phone, and sexually touching a girl aged under 14. He was put on a 12-month referral order.

Mr Roy said his client had been estranged from his parents as a result of the incidents and was living with foster carers.

But this arrangement had also collapsed two weeks ago when the carers won the Lottery and decided to give up work.

Johnston was now living at a hotel in Crewe until accommodation could be found for him, said Mr Roy.

Sheriff James Farrell said: "I shall call for reports in your case. Your name will be placed on the sex offenders register."
