More human remains found in bags

Police searching lane in Hawthornvale
The scene has been cordoned off while police search the area

Police investigating the discovery of a human skull on a public footpath in Edinburgh said they have found more remains.

Other pieces of bone were found in a blue Ikea bag containing the head and in other bags recovered from the same location in Hawthornvale, Newhaven.

Officers believe the remains, discovered on Wednesday, belonged to a female - probably over the age of 14.

It is thought the person died between five and 15 years ago.

Lothian and Borders Police said scientific enquiries will take several weeks to complete.
