Poppy tin thief gets four months

Poppies
The poppy tin was stolen four days before Armistice Day

A man who stole a poppy collection tin from a pub on Edinburgh's Royal Mile has been jailed for four months.

Scott Skilling, 28, of Edinburgh, took the charity tin from the Royal Macgregor pub on 7 November, four days before Armistice Day.

He was sentenced after pleading guilty at an earlier hearing at Edinburgh Sheriff Court.

Michael Cairns, 32, of Edinburgh, who appeared with Skilling in court on 13 November will be sentenced in December.

Cairns admitted stealing a charity tin from the Royal Bank of Scotland in Blenheim Place, also on 7 November.
