Pedestrian injured in hit-and-run

A pedestrian suffered serious head injuries after being struck by a silver 4x4 vehicle in a hit-and-run crash.

The 33-year-old man was crossing Charlotte Square in Edinburgh, close to its junction with Rose Street, when the collision happened at about 0230 GMT.

The vehicle then drove off in the direction of Princes Street.

Lothian and Borders Police said the victim sustained a "significant" head injury, and was taken to hospital where his condition was stable.

The force said it was anxious to speak to anyone who witnessed the crash, or who may have information on the vehicle involved.
