A gang of four youths who attacked and robbed a man in Edinburgh after spending the evening at a city centre casino are being sought by police.

The 19-year-old was walking home on Silverknowes Road on Thursday at about 2245 BST when he became aware of the group behind him.

One of them attempted to engage him in conversation, but he ignored them.

The group chased him, and the man ran in front of a passing sliver hatchback which had to swerve to avoid him.

The group continued to give chase, eventually catching up with him near the steps leading to the Main Street at Davidson's Mains.

One of the group produced a screwdriver and threatened the victim, forcing him to hand over cash.

The victim was punched in the face, and the suspects fled the scene with his winnings from the casino (£100).

The three males and one female are all between 15 and 17 years old.

The attacker who was in possession of the screwdriver is slim and 5ft 2ins to 5ft 4ins.

The others are all 5ft 4ins to 5ft 6ins, and of average build.

A Lothian and Borders Police spokesman said: "Although not seriously injured, the victim was extremely shaken and we are anxious to speak to anyone who has any information that can help us track down these youths.

"In particular, we are keen to speak to the driver of the silver hatchback who had to swerve to avoid the victim when he ran in front of his vehicle.

"Anyone with any other information that can help our enquiries should also get in touch."
