A three-storey block of Edinburgh flats was evacuated after a blaze in a stairwell caused flames to shoot from its roof.

Firefighters were called to Firrhill Crescent in Colinton Mains.

The alarm was raised at about 0420 BST on Tuesday. Three fire appliances and a turntable ladder were used at the scene.

A Lothian and Borders Fire and Rescue Service spokeswoman said all residents at the flats had been accounted for.

She said Firrhill Day Centre was being made available to those families who had to leave the burning building.
