Car taken by hijacker at lights

A man who hijacked a car while a woman was waiting at traffic lights in Edinburgh is being sought by police.

The 57-year-old woman was waiting to turn into Dalkeith Road at about 2200 BST on Monday when a man approached.

He opened the car door, threatened her and ordered her out of the vehicle. The woman got out and the man drove off toward Priestfield Road.

The blue car was later found abandoned, in Kirkhill Terrace. A second man was seen running away.

The thief was white, between 18-25 years old, 5ft 9ins, and was wearing a black jacket and trousers.

The other man was black or mixed race, 25 years old, 5ft 9ins, and was wearing a black hooded top, and black trousers.

A police spokesman said: "This type of crime is highly unusual in Edinburgh, and police are following a positive line of inquiry.

"We would ask anyone who was in the area at the time, and who saw anything suspicious, to contact police as a matter of urgency."
